I was born in December of 1938. My wife's name is Elizabeth and we have a son, David. I have a B.S. in accounting from Temple University and two years of study at the Wharton School. Continental Grain hired me from Wharton before my thesis was finished.
They taught me how to buy grain. After four years of
that, Merrill Lynch hired me on as a commodity futures broker and sent me to
S.F. to run the commodities desk. That is where K.K. Sharma, owner of Malayan
Produce Co. in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, met me.. He asked me to join his firm.
I accepted and he started me out in London and Rotterdam before moving me to
Manila where I bought coconut oil and then Kuala Lumpur where we traded a broad
range of tropical vegetable oils. After several years of that, I
returned home and we had a son in 1981. I worked for 7 years as a financial
analyst at H.P. and then got a California Real Estate Broker's License. We
escaped from California in 2000 and built a home in Minden.
I have lived under socialism and seen that it is an absolute failure. People in
the most advanced nations of Europe have a lower standard of living than
Americans because of socialism. Governments, no matter where they are, have
absolutely NO competence in business. Lady Thatcher understood this and sold
off Brit Rail and Brit Steel and other socialist businesses. The result was
good for England and has not been reversed by subsequent socialist governments.
When we lived in California, I supported school choice.
Milton Friedman, who lived in S.F. joined our effort
and I had the valuable experience of learning from him. American government
schools were judged "substandard" by the OECD in 1994. The only solution is to
give parents an amount equal to about 2/3 of the per pupil government spending
on education. They can bank that money and then pay a non-government school to
educate their
children. This results in much better education for the children.
The state of Nevada is, in fact, not a state. It is an occupied territory. The
Federal Government claims to own 91% of the land in
Nevada. This is clearly unconstitutional and Nevada needs to reclaim ALL of the
unowned land within the state for itself. If Nevada owned the land, the cost of
houses in Clark and Washoe County would be cheaper because the state could sell
whatever is necessary to accommodate county housing requirements. The
legislature needs to get working on this subject and I will ensure that the
subject is made very public.
